Curtain raiser for students… as Peter Cooper Motor Group arranges behind the scenes tour for Hampshire students at the Mayflower Theatre

Students from Wildern School in Hedge End were given a behind the scenes tour of Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre thanks to the Peter Cooper Motor Group.

Over 20 pupils from Year 10 experienced what it must be like to stand on stage and take in the applause from a full house at this historic theatre. The unique opportunity was thanks to The Peter Cooper Motor Group, a commercial partner of Mayflower Theatre who were able to arrange the tour.

As well standing on the stage, the one and half hour tour took in a visit backstage, the dressing rooms and the box office, as well as hearing some of the history about this special theatre.

Darren Cooper, managing director of The Peter Cooper Motor Group, said: “We’ve had a long partnership with the Mayflower Theatre and this is a really nice thing to be able to offer the school. We are delighted they enjoyed the experience.

“We handpicked Wildern school for its proximity to our Hedge End showroom as well as our long association that spans over 30 years. It’s great to be able to offer some of our sponsorship benefits back into the local community to enthuse young performers.”

Executive head teacher at Wildern school Miss Marie-Louise Litton, said: “The students were absolutely captivated and treated to a wonderful visit which gave them access to areas of the theatre that most people never get to see.

“I’ve had some wonderful feedback from students and teachers alike. Our thanks go out to Darren Cooper at The Peter Cooper Motor Group and the staff at the Mayflower Theatre.”

Chris Godfroy, Group Operations Manager at the Peter Cooper Motor Group, said: “It was really nice to see the pupils having such fun and to see what happens behind the scenes at the Mayflower. It was an education for me too! The Mayflower Theatre has an amazing team who really made us all feel very special.”
