The Peter Cooper Motor Group has launched their own Charity Foundation to mark 40 years in business.
Founded in 1981, the Group has grown from strength to strength, now with 6 showrooms, 1 Bodyshop, over 250 members of staff and over 40,000 loyal customers.
Battling through the pandemic took the Group’s focus away from charity for several months, something that Managing Director, Darren Cooper was very conscious of.
“Our businesses have always supported local business and communities and we have always taken pride in how much we support and raise for charity compared to our competitors.
We rarely show others the good work that we get involved with and when I think of what we have raised over a 40 year period, it’s a secret that should be shared. Hence the launch of our Foundation!
Our aim is to bring all our charitable activities under one umbrella, giving us a long term strategy to our charitable work in the community.”
Darren continued, “Our Foundation will mark our 40th anniversary and all our charity work for the years ahead. It also marks the pain and suffering caused by the Coronavirus crisis, especially for our charities.
Charities need our help now more than ever and we look forward to supporting them and making a difference. This year will be difficult to raise funds, however our challenge is to recognise our 40th by raising £40,000.
The charities at the centre of our attention for 2021 are Cancer Research UK and JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). We have chosen to support Cancer charities since June 2011, when my mother, Lyn, was terminally diagnosed with cancer and given the tragic news of a 5-6 month life expectancy.
We sought a second opinion and was introduced to some very specific and ground breaking treatments that firstly killed the brain tumour she had and then maintained and controlled other cancerous cells in the body.
The money we raise will go towards the much needed research to continue with our quest of beating all major strands of cancer. The other charity is JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Type 1 Diabetes is a condition that everyone is familiar with, but one that many don’t often appreciate the life changing symptoms it places on people’s lives, especially children.
My daughter was unfortunately diagnosed with type 1 in 2018 and I for one didn’t appreciate how it turns a child’s life upside down. The injections and monitoring around everyday life that they have to do is relentless and I want to help speed up the day when type 1 diabetes can be easily controlled.
Together we can make a huge difference!"
In March 2020, staff Richard O'Connell and Matt Clewes took on the Peter Cooper 500 for the first time with the help of Darren Cooper.
The pair raised over £2,000 for the charity on a day of Sporting Events around Southampton.
Peter Cooper Motor Group is still very much a family business, we have 5 showrooms, 1 bodyshop, over 200 members of staff and over 25,000 loyal customers.
As a result of our active involvement with a number of local clubs and companies in the community, we can often offer our customers a variety of benefits for being part of the Peter Cooper Motor Group Family. This could be tickets to the football, a round of golf or tickets to a show. All you have to do is join the family!
We actively support a number of charities that are dear to our hearts for various reasons. Please take the time to read about these great organisations and the great work they are doing.
