Football Legend James Beattie and YouTube Star Tubes Take on Epic 18-Course Golf Challenge for Wessex “Heartbeat”
Former Southampton FC striker James Beattie and popular YouTuber and former Soccer AM presenter Peter Dale, better known as "Tubes", have just finished an extraordinary golfing challenge to raise thousands of pounds for Wessex “Heartbeat”.
The pair took on the remarkable feat of playing 18 holes across 18 different golf courses along the South Coast in a single day, combining their shared passion for golf with a commitment to supporting a charity close to their hearts.
The 19 hour challenge began at Boundary Lakes at the Utilita Bowl in Botley where Beattie and Tubes were joined for the opening three holes by Darren Cooper, Managing Director the Peter Cooper Motor Group, before continuing their ambitious journey across the region finishing at Remedy Oak Golf Club in Wimborne.
Supporting the challenge on the road, The Peter Cooper Motor Group provided an electric Kia EV9 and a dedicated driver to transport the pair between each course, helping to keep the challenge on schedule while also showcasing sustainable travel.
For Tubes, the fundraiser carries a deeply personal significance. Over ten years ago, he suffered a heart attack and has since spoken openly about his experience, using his platform to raise awareness of heart health and encourage others to seek help and make positive lifestyle changes. By supporting Wessex Heartbeat, he hopes to help improve cardiac care and support for patients and their families across the region.
Throughout the day, golfers had the unique opportunity to donate and play alongside James and Tubes, with every contribution helping to support the vital work of Wessex Heartbeat.
Mark Ind, CEO of Wessex Heartbeat, said: "We are incredibly grateful to James, Tubes, all the golf clubs and everyone involved in this fantastic challenge, especially The Peter Cooper Motor Group. James and Tubes’ dedication, enthusiasm and willingness to go the extra mile—quite literally—will help raise vital funds to support people and families living with heart conditions across our region. Challenges like this not only generate essential income but also raise awareness of the importance of heart health and the life-changing work Wessex Heartbeat delivers every day."
James Beattie said: "Golf has given both of us so many great experiences over the years, so it felt right to use our love of the game to give something back. Playing 18 holes on 18 different courses in one day is a challenge, so to raise thousands of pounds for Wessex Heartbeat and encourages people to support such an incredible charity, was worth it. We're also grateful to everyone who's joined us along the way and to Darren and The Peter Cooper Motor Group for helping us make it happen."
Peter 'Tubes' Dale said: "This challenge means a lot to me personally. Having suffered a heart attack ten years ago, I know just how important the work of charities like Wessex Heartbeat is. I've been very open about my experience because if sharing my story helps even one person take their heart health seriously, it's worth it. To be able to combine that message with a day of golf, alongside one of my best mates, while raising money for such a fantastic cause is something I'm really proud to be part of. We hope people get behind us and donate whatever they can."
Darren Cooper, Managing Director of Peter Cooper Motor Group, said: "When Beatts told us about the challenge, we were only too pleased to help out. We have been a supporter of Wessex Heartbeat for decades and it’s a charity that makes a real difference to people and families across our region.
“Providing one of our superb electric Kia vehicles and a driver meant the team could focus on the golf while travelling efficiently between each course. The EV9 is perfect for transporting lots of golf equipment and people around, taking four adults and golf bags comfortably…all without a carbon footprint. We're proud to play a small part in what is an incredible fundraising effort and wish them every success in reaching their target."
