WARNING LIGHTS AND WHAT THEY MEAN

Warning lights and what they mean. Red warning lights mean you should stop the car as soon as it's safe. Yellow warning lights mean that action is required. Green warning lights are for information only. The information on warning lights on this page does not apply to electric cars. Please consult your owner's manual.




Airbag Warning Light: If the airbag warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.


Seatbelt Warning Light: If the seat belt is not fastened, a chime sounds for 6 seconds. And the seat belt warning light stays on until the seat belt is fastened. Fasten the seat belt.

Parking Brake Warning Light: If you drive with the parking brake applied, the parking brake warning light flashes and a chime sounds. Release the parking brake, or if the brake fluid level is low, the light illuminates. Check the brake fluid reservoir and top it up if necessary. If the light does not turn off, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

Warning: If the brake fluid level is low, do not drive your vehicle. The brake may not work properly.


The EPS (Electronic Power Steering): This assists driver’s steering effort. If the EPS warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

The Charging System Warning Light: If this light stays on, it's indicating that either the battery is exhausted, the fan belt is broken, or the alternator or electrical charging system is malfunctioning. If the charging system warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.


The Engine Oil Level: If the engine oil level is low, the engine oil pressure warning light stays on. Check the engine oil level and add the oil if necessary.

The Fuel Filter Warning Light: This stays on to indicate that the fuel filter is filled with more water than specified amount. If the fuel filter warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.


The ABS (Anti-lock Braking System): This allows the driver to maintain the control over the vehicle by preventing the vehicle from slipping when the brakes are applied. If the ABS warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

The Engine Warning Light: If the light stays on, it's indicating that either the vehicle powertrain or the emission control system is malfunctioning, a leakage occurs in the fuel supply system or, the fuel tank cap is not closed properly. If the engine warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.


Low Fuel Level Warning Light: If the low fuel level warning light stays on, add fuel as soon as possible.

Low Tire Pressure Warning Light: If the tire pressure is low, the low tire pressure warning light stays on. Check the tire pressure and inflate the tire if necessary, and if the tire pressure monitoring system is malfunctioning, the light will not illuminate or flash for 1 minute and stay on. Have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

The Electronic Parking Brake Warning Light: If the light stays, it's indicating that either the electronic parking brake is malfunctioning, or the electronic stability control is malfunctioning. If the electronic parking brake warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist Warning Light: If the light stays on, it's indicating that either the front view camera is malfunctioning, or the front radar is malfunctioning. If the forward collision-avoidance assist warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

All Wheel Drive Warning Light​: If the all wheel drive warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer immediately.

Master Warning Light: If more than one malfunction exists, the master warning light stays on.


The ESC (Electronic Stability Control): This assists driver’s steering by preventing skidding on the slippery or curved road. If the ESC indicator light flashes, it is normal, and if the ESC indicator stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

Immobilizer Indicator Light (Without Smart key): This prevents vehicle theft by allowing the registered keys to start the vehicle. If the immobiliser indicator light flashes, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

Immobilizer Indicator Light (With Smart key): The immobiliser prevents vehicle theft by allowing the registered keys to start the vehicle.

If the smart key does not exist in the vehicle or the battery of the smart key is low when the ignition is ON, the immobiliser indicator light flashes. Press the Engine START/STOP button with the smart key.

LED Headlamp Warning Light: If this flashes or stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

SCR Warning Light: If the urea solution level is low, the SCR warning light stays on. Check the urea solution tank and add the solution if necessary. If the urea solution level is not low and the light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

Glow Indicator Light (Diesel Engine): If this flashes or stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

Warning: There is a risk of fire if the glow indicator light flashes while preheating.

Note: The emission system may be damaged if the vehicle is driven while the glow indicator light is on.

AUTO HOLD Indicator Light: This keeps the vehicle stopped even if your foot is removed from the brake pedal after the vehicle stops. If the AUTO HOLD indicator light illuminates white or green, it is normal. If the AUTO HOLD indicator illuminates yellow, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

The ISG Indicator Light (Diesel Engine) (Idle Stop and Go): This improves fuel efficiency and reduces exhaust emissions by pausing the engine after the vehicle is stationary. If the ISG indicator light illuminates green, it is normal. If the ISG indicator light illuminates yellow, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

Hazard Warning/Turn Signal Indicator Light: If all the light flash when you press the hazard warning flasher, it is normal or if the light flashes faster than normal condition, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

Low Beam Indicator Light: When the headlights are on, the low beam indicator light illuminates.

The HBA Indicator Light: (High Beam Assist): The switch the headlights to low beam or high beam automatically by detecting oncoming or preceding vehicles. When the light switch is in the AUTO position, the HBA indicator light illuminates. 

Light ON Indicator: When the tail lights or headlights are on, the light ON indicator light illuminates.

Cruise Setting Indicator Light: When you press SET button after the vehicle reaches the expected speed while the cruise control indicator light is on, the cruise setting indicator light illuminates.


Lane Keeping Assist Indicator Light: If the lane keeping assist indicator light illuminates white or green, it is normal. If the lane keeping assist indicator light illuminates yellow, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.

Downhill Brake Control Indicator Light: This assists the driver to descend a steep hill without depressing the brake pedal. If the DBC indicator light illuminates or flashes green, it is normal. If the DBC indicator light illuminates yellow, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer. 

Eco Mode Indicator Light: When the drive mode is set to ECO mode, the fuel efficiency is improved. And the ECO mode indicator light illuminates.

SMART Mode Indicator Light: When the drive mode is set to SMART mode, the drive mode is optimised with driver’s driving habits. And the SMART mode indicator light illuminates.


High Beam Indicator Light: This illuminates when the headlights are on and in the high beam position or when the lighting control lever is pulled into the flash-to-pass position.

AUTO HOLD Indicator Light: This keeps the vehicle stopped even if your foot is removed from the brake pedal after the vehicle stops. If the AUTO HOLD indicator light illuminates white or green, it is normal. If the AUTO HOLD indicator illuminates yellow, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer. 

The EBD Warning Light: (Electronic Brake force Distribution): This improves braking performance by distributing the brake force to the front and rear wheels. If the EBD warning light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorised Kia dealer.
